Fayçal Baghriche in conversation with curator Yasmina Reggad

As part of Iniva’s partnership with aria (artist residency in algiers), a conversation will be hosted at Rivington Place with artist Fayçal Baghriche and curator Yasmina Reggad.

The Mosaic Rooms and aria present the exhibition Intervening Space: From The Intimate To The World.  The exhibition features work by Fayçal BaghricheAmina MeniaAtef BerredjemHanan BenammarMassinissa Selmani and Sadek Rahim.  The works explore interstices in time and space. Using space as a  frame for human experience, they reflect upon transitional places and intermediary zones. By inhabiting these in-betweens, the artists harness liminal space in their articulation of that which echoes between the the private and the public, the intimate and the immense.

Fayçal Baghriche (b.1972, Algeria) draws upon fundamental principals of image rhetoric such as subtraction, inversion, or acceleration. He creates artworks that question the schema that organises human societies. His exhibitions include Beijing Outpost for Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Bielefelder Kunstverein, Germany; Al Riwaq Art Space, Bahrain; The Museum of Modern Art of Algiers, Algeria; the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, the Gwangju Biennale, BrotKunsthalle, Austria; and Galerie Campagne Première, Germany. His work will be shown at Dak’Art 2014, Senegal and Palais de Tokyo, France.

Yasmina Reggad is an independent curator and writer based in London. Recent curatorial projects include commissioning ‘Sketches of Algiers’ by Amina Menia for 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair – Somerset House, London, UK (2013) and Performative Objects at Selma Feriani Gallery in Tunis, Tunisia. She is also the Director and Founder of the non-profit organisation, Photo-Festivals. She writes on photography and contemporary art.
