One of the highlights of this Autumn’s London art calendar is the upcoming exhibition GOD SAVE the QUEEN curated by Monica Colussi in Motor Village UK, Marylebone. An extraordinary series of over 50 artworks will be on display depicting HM Queen Elizabeth II, through the seven decades of her reign.
The exhibition incorporating sculpture, photography, painting, drawing, fabric elaborations, video, sound and hologram is set on the lower level of Fiat Chrysler Motor Village UK, one of London’s unique, and a bit of a hidden gem gallery space, a generously sized Kubrick’s Clockwork Orange style platform.
The works created by 32 artists include the legendary Terry O’Neil as well as Dafydd Jones, Alison Jackson, Rankin, Hayden Kays, John Swannell, Vanja Karas, Rob and Nick Carter, and Nina Duncan and several other internationally acclaimed and emerging artists embracing a unique and distinguished vision of the queen, the longest-serving monarch in modern times.
Monica Colussi has organised and curated an exhibition which both salutes HM the Queen while also adding to her legacy and cult; a collection of existing and commissioned work, weaving a narrative through this extraordinary life. It crosses media, it pushes boundaries, and it is unprecedented as no art exhibition with such variety of artworks and media on HM the Queen has been done to date.
For Colussi, it is HM the Queen’s strength and charisma which are the inspiration behind this exhibition. An opportunity to celebrate both, her private and public persona.
