Jewellers in Residence




mima’s jewellers in residence will be creating new work in our jewellery gallery from January 2015.

Come along on Tuesdays during gallery opening hours to see Gemma Draper, or Wednesdays during gallery opening hours to see Janet Hinchliffe McCutcheon at work in the jewellery gallery.

Janet’s connection with our jewllery collection began with its origin in the early 1980’s, and she has subsequently collaborated on exhibitions of our jewellery collection,  both in Middlesbrough and on a touring exhibition of the UK. Janet was a member of a core group of jewellery specialists who advising mima on our jewellery collecting policy. A necklace created by Janet is held in mima’s jewellery collection. She will be based in the jewellery gallery on Wednesdays during gallery opening hours, making practical and experimental models for her current jewellery project ‘Drawn to the Edge’- presence and memory of coastal places. She will combine this with participation activities to examine ways that people can gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of jewellery.
