Pitzhanger will present a new body of work by renowned British artist Julian Opie, including site specific pieces, focusing on architecture, people and nature.
Opie is recognisable for his distinctive and refined graphic style, distilling the visual information of everyday life and reality to a universal language of symbols and signs. Like Sir John Soane, Opie reflects a wide range of diverse influences and art historical references within his work. The centrepiece of the show will be the representation of a French village landscape in variety of media, inviting the visitor to circulate through imaginary spaces from multiple viewpoints. The exhibition will be complemented by artworks in the public grounds outside the front of the Manor and facing Walpole Park at the rear – the first exhibition programmed both in the gallery and outdoors.
