The London Sculpture Workshop and Griffin Gallery are delighted to present a collaborative drawing and sculpture event to coincide with the exhibition ‘Drawing Into Sculpture’, curated by Rebecca Pelly-Fry and Jessica Carlisle.  The event will mirror the curatorial ideas from the exhibition in that participants will spend the day transforming drawings made at Griffin into sculptures made at LSW, with the support of two of the artists from the exhibition, Dexter Dymoke and Chloe McClennan.

The event will begin at Griffin Gallery, at 9:00am, with a curator’s talk by Rebecca Pelly-Fry and a tour of the exhibition.  We will then move upstairs to one of the Griffin Art Studios for a drawing workshop with the artists during which the group will begin planning for the sculptural work to be made later in the day.

After the drawing session, participants will take their work to LSW to begin the second part of the event; complimentary transportation will be provided for all guests going from the gallery to LSW.  There will be a brief orientation to the facilities and then you will have the opportunity to create a sculpture based on your drawings.  To support Dexter and Chloe, the co-founders of LSW, Jessica Mello and Gilles Corby, as well as Studio Manager Melis van den Berg, will be on hand to provide any assistance that you may need during the afternoon.  The materials available to work with include metal, wood and plaster.

The group will work on the sculptures until about 5pm, at which point there will be complimentary wine and refreshments served during a discussion about the work.  You can take this opportunity to ask questions of the artists and talk about your experience during the day.
