Love, Lust and Longing in Greek Poetry and Image
Dr Peter Agocs – in partnership with the Petrie Museum
Explore the imagery of Eros through Freud’s collection of antiquities and writings and the response of contemporary artists in the current exhibition ‘Freud and Eros: Love, Lust and Longing’. Followed by a talk by Dr Peter Agocs (UCL Greek & Latin) on the use of Eros as an emblem of desire in Greek lyric poetry and what was understood by ‘Eros’ in the classical world.
Part of an imaginative season of talks, events and performances accompanying the exhibition ‘Freud and Eros: Love, Lust and Longing’ 22 October 2014 – 22 February 2015.
