Come and visit us this Sunday to meet the talented artist Vicky Oldfield and learn more about her collapgrah technique!
Vicky studied (BA Hons) Design at Staffordshire University and then advanced printmaking at Richmond School of Art.
Vicky has experimented with a variety of printmaking techniques but has recently worked exclusively with the media of collagraph. It is recycling at its most creative! Plates are built up from everyday materials in layers like a collage, once sealed with varnish the plate can be inked up, wiped and printed on damp paper, which produces highly textural prints.
The nature of this process limits reproduction to small hand-inked runs, each print is then hand finished using collage and watercolour, making each of the series unique.
Vicky is inspired by collections of objects and their histories combined with fascination with the structure and design found in flowers and plants. Still lives often incorporate seedpods, grasses, bottles and bowls collected on walking and sketching trips. Each piece tells a story using collage and drawing referencing a memory, time or place.
