Open Call to Artists for Griffin Gallery and QEST Collaborative Exhibition

Open Call to Artists for Griffin Gallery and QEST Collaborative Exhibition

The Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) and Griffin Gallery are delighted to announce a collaborative exhibition opening as part of London Craft Week, 6 – 10 May 2015.

Inspired by the core programme of this year’s London Craft Week, ‘London’s Hidden Craft’, the exhibition will feature scholars from QEST and fine artists in dialogue with each other.   Craftspersons and artists selected from the Open Call will be paired together by a judging panel that includes Becca Pelly-Fry, Director of Griffin Gallery, Steve McLeod photographer and Director of Metro Imaging, and Julia Robinson, of QEST and other QEST Team members. The spirit of the exhibition lies in the desire to demonstrate the contemporary nature of craft, and the craft involved in contemporary art – changing perceptions of both.

Applicants for this exhibition must be interested in the role that craft plays in contemporary art today and in working collaboratively with a QEST scholar.  This collaboration can be in the form of making or exhibiting work that responds to each other and/or creating a new piece of work together.

Interested artists should submit the following to, with the subject line ‘Griffin/QEST Exhibition’:

  1. A copy of your current CV.
  2. Up to 4 images of your work, no image to exceed 1MB in size.  The images must be JPEGs, titled in the following format: YourName_Title of Work_Dimensions.  All dimensions should be in cm.
  3. A brief statement, no more than 200 words, of the role that craft plays in your practice.
  4. An indication of the type(s) of craft that would be of most interest to you in terms of collaboration, skills exchange and dialogue.

The deadline for submissions is 5pm, Monday, 17 November 2014.  No submissions sent after that time can be considered for inclusion.

Work made in collaboration with the QEST scholars must be ready for installation by 1 May 2015 and available for exhibition for the entirety of London Craft Week.  All work in the exhibition may be for sale, at the discretion of the maker.
