A unique opportunity for photographers and artists to receive feedback on their work in a friendly and informal setting. Advice will be offered by professionals working in photography with specialisms spanning artistic, curatorial, editorial and publishing. This opportunity is open to all UK based practitioners using photography as a core part of their work who graduated or established their practice within the past ten years. Aaron Schuman (www.aaronschuman.com) is an American artist, writer, editor and curator, based in the United Kingdom. His photographic works – such as FOLK (2014), Summer Set (2013), Redwoods (2012), and Once Upon a Time in the West (2011) – have been exhibited and published internationally, and are held in a number of public and private collections. Additionally, Schuman regularly writes for publications such as Frieze, Aperture, Foam, Hotshoe, Photoworks, TIME, The British Journal of Photography, and more; he has also contributed essays to several recent books, including Alec Soth: Gathered Leaves (MACK, 2015), Vision Anew (University of California Press, 2015), The Photographer’s Playbook (Aperture, 2014), Storyteller: The Photographs of Duane Michals (Prestel, 2014), C-Photo: Observed (IvoryPress, 2013), Photographs Not Taken(Daylight, 2012), and Words Without Pictures (Aperture, 2010). In 2014, Schuman served as Chief Curator of Krakow Photomonth 2014’s exhibition programme, Re:Search. Additionally, he has curated a number of other shows, including Whatever Was Splendid: New American Photographs (Fotofest, 2010), Other I: Alec Soth, WassinkLundgren, Viviane Sassen (Hotshoe Gallery, 2011), and In Appropriation: Broomberg & Chanarin, Melinda Gibson, Seba Kurtis, Esther Teichmann, Michael Wolf (Houston Center of Photography, 2012). Schuman is also a Senior Lecturer at the University of Brighton and the Arts University Bournemouth, and is the founder and editor of SeeSaw Magazine .
Lucy Moore is the Director of Claire de Rouen Books. She studied Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art and Design and the Royal College of Art, and writes frequently as well as directing the bookshop and its new publishing imprint. In June 2014 she established a new art book fair, Room&Book, which celebrates and fosters book collecting, with a focus on art, style, photography and counterculture publishing from the past 40 years.
Bruno Ceschel is a writer, publisher and lecturer at the Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London and École cantonale d’art de Lausanne. He is the founder of Self Publish, Be Happy, an organisation that collects, studies, and celebrates self-published photobooks through an ongoing program of workshops, live events, and off/online projects. Self Publish, Be Happy has organised events at a number of institutions around the world, including Tate Modern, The Photographer’s Gallery, Serpentine Galleries, C/O Berlin, Aperture Foundation and Kunsthal Charlottenborg amongst others. Ceschel is also the Director of SPBH Editions, which has most recently published books by Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin, Lucas Blalock, Mariah Robertson, Gareth McConnell and Lorenzo Vitturi.
Ceschel writes regularly for a number of publications such asFOAM, The British Journal of Photography and Aperture Magazine and has guest-edited issues of Photography and Culture and The PhotoBook Review. His new book Self Publish, Be Happy: A DIY Photobook Manual and Manifestohas just been published by Aperture Foundation.
