Screening & In-Conversation: Marine Hugonnier, ‘Ariana’

Marine Hugonnier makes essay films in which the lines between fiction and documentary are both questioned and blurred. Often recording a journey, her films take time to examine the cultural context of a particular place or subject and the politics of the imagery she generates. Her films are tools for critical thinking and an attempt to define another kind of experience – an experience of images through the world rather than the world through images.

In this special screening, Hugonnier will show the much-acclaimed ‘Ariana’, shot in Afghanistan in 2002, and most recent film ‘Apicula Enigma’ (2013), alongside other works. After the screening she will be joined in conversation by the critic Martin Herbert.

Programmed by Film and Video Umbrella as part of 25 Frames.
