To celebrate the launch of The Fashion of Film: How Cinema has Inspired Fashion, join fashion historian Amber Butchart on a journey through the last 100 years of cinema style and its influence on the catwalks. Citing beautiful imagery from designers such as Dolce & Gabbana, Prada and Moschino Amber looks at how our most iconic movies have transformed the world of high fashion.
The talk is drawn from Amber’s research for the book, which spans seven key genres from Crime and Sci-Fi to Horror, with a focus on classic love films and the 1930s – the tipping point for the relationship between style and cinema. From Wong Kar Wai to Gone With the Wind – Amber discusses the role of love and heartbreak in adorning the body on screen.
Amber Butchart is a fashion historian working across cultural heritage, broadcasting and academia. She is an Associate Lecturer at London College of Fashion, a former Research Fellow at the University of the Arts London, and is regularly asked to speak at London’s cultural hotspots – from the Tate to the V&A – and as far afield as Dubai and Ukraine. Amber has contributed to numerous productions for the BBC, Sky Arts and Channel 4, and is currently making a documentary to air on Radio 4 and the World Service in late 2016.https://amberbutchart.com/
